About us
Château Moyau covers a total area of 128.5 acres. Planting rights exist for around half of the area. At present, 52 acres are actively cultivated. A further 7.5 acres are currently being prepared for planting. The name of the winery is derived from the Occitan word "Matuya". This means "fertile land". According to a legend the name of the winery comes from the founder of the winery, a pirate who retired here at the end of his "career". We like both derivations very much.
At the end of the 20th century, large parts of the estate were abandoned. This changed in 2004 with the fundamental reorientation of the winery. Thus the wine production was constantly changed from quantity to quality; the wines produced here today make up only a third of the originally produced wine of Moyau. Today the winery uses modern, sustainable methods and the wine is cultivated and developed in our modern cellar into what our customers and we value so much: incomparable Moyau.
